Acthook.com- How To Book A Band
At Acthook.com we love giving hints and tips on the music industry and all others music related things! We want our event promoters to know how things work and we also want our bands to know how things work. If you are looking to book a band then we can help with our step by step guide on how to book a band.
Before you book a band you need to stop and have a good think whether they are right band for you. You need to make sure you have the budget , you have a confirmed venue and maybe even a potential line-up offer. Another important factor especially for you as an event promoter most probably wanting to at-least break even is- will the band bring a big enough crowd to pay for the costing? If you don't think they will move and and look for another band to book.
If you're wondering how to find a band then you're already in the right place. Acthook.com has thousands of bands and other artists hungry for gigs so if your are wanting to find and book a band checkout our artist directory at http://www.acthook.com/browse.php
If you've thought of all the factors then you are on your way to book a band. Small bands most probably wont have a booking agent so if your working within a tight budget then start by booking smaller bands that are local and have a good following to bring the crowds in.
If you have a bigger budget for your event you can book a bigger headliner and hope that the name brings in the crowds. A lot of event promoters book a well known main headline band and then fill the rest of the line-up with smaller local artists. This is a great move. Your local acts will always pull friends and family and your headliner will make people want to travel so everyone's happy.
So you have your plan in place you've sorted you venue, budget and additional things like a sound technician, artwork. Your next step is to send the initial email to ether the artists or the booking agent. If the artists is on Acthook.com then you'll be able to send a booking request through our internal system or to an external email but if they're not, in order to book a band you'll need to find their booking email or agent on other platforms like Facebook Music Pages or Soundcloud. Their email will normally be under “booking info” or something on them lines.
In the first email contact try and avoid mentioning prices, just tell them what date, when you want them, who else is playing, the venue, start time , set times and location, pretty much all the key points. The artists or booking agency will get back to you with a price and then the fun begins.
If a band is playing a gig in a nearby town you may be able to barter the price down or you may even know another event promoter or venue which you can offer a double booking and drive down the price. What ever way your doing it if you know how to find on social sites that support music pages then you'll find it easy to book a band.
